Massive disappointmentReview date: 2008-07-23 Rating: 2 out of 10Oh dear. A book that I'm sure has a clear argument within it struggles to become aparent due to the very limited writing skills of its author. It's little more than a ramble through cricket history leaving a reader that already has a high level knowledge of cricket events since the 1970s thinking "where is this going?".
Some of the points the book makes are frankly ridiculous eg. that the admission of females to the MCC was more significant for cricket than the advent of 20-20 (this is not a joke).
Excellent readReview date: 2008-06-21 Rating: 10 out of 10This is a fantastically well research book that shines a bright light on the structural failures of England cricket. Hopefully the authorities will take note before its too late, for the benefit of all true cricket fans. Spot onReview date: 2008-06-04 Rating: 10 out of 10As a club cricketer I am often asked why our national team is so up and down; Buckland explores the reasons why professional cricket is in sad state. I have not been to an England game myself since Sydney 1995 and the reason is cost. Why are we priced out? If you want the answers, read this book. A very well researched book which could answer many of the questions, the average cricket lover asks on a regular basis. Wake up ECB, MCC and Counties, take note, PLEASE, for the silent, excluded majority.Compelling stuff !Review date: 2008-06-03 Rating: 10 out of 10At last, a Pommie who truly calls it for what it is ! Let's hope the MCC ignores every word and we continue our Ashes' dominance.
